I usually get about £150 per month tax credits but have just recd this months and it is £288!!! Is it an amendment because we are approaching the end of the tax year or a mistake? I hate calling them as they are so rubbish usually and if it is a mistake i have already used it to pay off my credit card! Maybe that was hasty! What should I do?

I did too

it came as the usual payment and then one of about 7.00 and one of a larger amount 177.00 extra

cathyspam · 16/02/2006 15:26

I opened the tax credit letters that had come in quadruplet a couple of weeks ago to see if the answer was there

and I think it is to adjust for the end of the tax year but these things are so confusing I'm not sure because I am still paying back an overpayment from 2003 -04 apparently

mistressmiggins · 16/02/2006 15:56

I would put the extra into a bank account and DONT TOUCH IT

that way if htye come looking youve got it, and if they dont, you can get interest & then spend it in a years time

the other strange thing I noticed is that on my statement it normally says just tax credit but these two unusual payments said working tax credit?

cathyspam · 16/02/2006 16:03

okay - even weirder - I wasnt due payment until next week - Do you think I will get my regular payment next week too? That would be nice!

that is weird zippi- wonder if my 4 hours per week working has made a difference - didnt think it would.

we got our normal payment before christmas......then another one a few days later. when we checked they said it was a bulk payment and the rest of our credits would be less to even out the amount over the whole year.

it makes no sense to us at all..........

vickiyumyum · 16/02/2006 19:07

i had a letter from them the other day telling me that i was going to get more money each week, only equates to pence.

vickiyumyum · 16/02/2006 19:08

actually i just read the letter and it says amount to be paid £584.80!!!!!!! as i don't get my tax credit until next week, i am now not sure how much i will be apid and when, if that is going to be all at once or an extra couple of pound per week? god why can't they just leave it alone!

ssd · 16/02/2006 19:33

they are all mad at TC's!!

we're overpaid by £2800, it's in an account waiting for them...........one minute they tell me it's mine, next they want it back...what to do??!!
