Restarting Tax Credits

Dh became unemployed last week. Our tax credits were removed in April, so we called up about the change in circumstance. We'd kept the claim open. Does anyone know how long it will take to come through?

If you kept the claim open (as opposed to submitting a new claim now) then it should be fairly quick.

Whenever I have had to notifty them of a change of circumstances the revised payment has come through the following week.

Although, as the Tax Credits you receive this year are based on your income last year, April 2011 to April 2012, I'm not sure that you will actually be entitled to that much this year. They can do a calculation taking into account what you are earning now, and what your estimated income for the current tax year will be, and give you more based on that though - I'm just not sure how much that would be. Did they give you any indication?

They said £70 was the base figure and once they'd checked out my childcare, then I may be entitled to £113 a week.

That doesn't sound too bad then Smile. I have heard of people getting something like £60 every four weeks - which hardly helps much!

IME then you should get your first payment within the next week. Fingers crossed Grin.

You wont get the childcare element if you DH doesnt work so i would check that part with them in case they have missed something off the system.
