Housing benefit and private renting: deposit? (Don't know if this is the right topic for this?)

Does anyone know if you can get help towards a deposit for a privately rented property if you qualify for full HB? Even if the deposit is more than what you would usually receive from HB?

I have tried to ring and find out, was told someone would ring back and heard nothing.

TIA

I can't pm you on my phone, but yes they do.
Look on Bedford borough council website and it gives all the details

I had a look on the site and couldn't find it Blush then I did find something, read it all, it answered nothing and then the last page said the information may be out of date because everything was changing in 2011...!

Thanks though, will go on the hunt again :)

Some councils do a letter of guarantee which was landlords accept in lieu of a deposit.

If you approach the council as homeless, they may provide a month's rent as a deposit but as HB is paid in arrears you would need to find the month upfront yourself
