Random tax credit payment....why do they do this without explanation?

Today I've received a tax credit payment for about the same amount as my usual weekly payment, even though I already received my usual one this week.

I wish they would explain what it is when they do this. I sent my renewal back about 10 days ago so I'm wondering if it's that. Did anyone else get something like this? It always seems to happen around the start of a tax year...

I should think it is to do with your renewal. In my experience they make a payment and then the paperwork appears later.

Yep - it's because you renewed. When I did it over the phone they mentioned that I would most likely get a random one off payment in addition to my usual payments.

Ah, ok thanks for your replies. I don't see how they owe me anything extra - I always get the same as my circumstances have not changed.

I sent my renewal pack back about two weeks ago,no change of cirumstances and today which is my usual payday got a five pound increase which was what I had expected. Every other year I have had an additional payment of around the same as a normal week but not so far this year (I can but hope!)
