tax credits, how long does it take?

I have changed my joint claim to a single claim due to separation.
Tax credits said they would stop the joint claim and I made a single claim but have had nothing for three weeks and really need the money now.
Does anyone know how long it takes?

Keep calling the helpline until you get something through. You don't get any prizes for being patient with HMRC IME... make a nuisance of yourself, follow up, etc.

I recently changed some of my details with them, took about 2 weeks for my new award letter to come through. I'd start hassling them!
