Self Assessment - anybody been due a refund?

Has anybody completed their self assessment online?

I have recently been notified that I owe a chunk of tax for 2010/2011. However, they owe me more from 2011/2012. I have just completed my tax return for 2011/2012 and filed it online - it does a calculation which confirms that they owe me. They will deduct what I owe them and refund me the remainder.

Does anybody know how long it takes for them to send this money? I have asked that they pay it directly into my bank account, so I guess that will be a little quicker.

When I've been due a refund its come in about a week or two I think. Quickly anyway.

Really? That quickly. I am shocked that they do it so quick - I thought I was in for a long wait!

I'm sure it was something ridiculous like that - will check to see when I submitted last years and when I got the refund (this year I will definitely need to pay them). I've found they send the money and theb the paperwork about it a long time afterwards).

Would be brilliant if you could do that Miranda. I want to make sure they sort it in time so I am not fined against 2010/11!! I also want to use the money to pay off a bill and depending on the timing it could come in really useful.

Had a look and for 2010/11 I submitted it on 3rd October and payment was in my bank account on 7th October . So even quicker than I thought. Not sure if it takes longer if they need to net it off with tax due for a previous year, but hopefully it should be done quickly for you.

Blimey, that is really quick - maybe I am in for some nice news next week then! They have already worked out the tax due from previous year so it shouldn't take them long to just deduct that amount.

I always submit a SA return and get the refund inside a week normally.

Thank you - it is telling me online on HMRC that its pending so something must be happening
