shoud I request additional borrowing while on unpaid maternity leave?

I really need to get some work done on the house and it would be best to do it while I am on maternity leave so I can move out with the kids if necessary or just take them out and about to avoid the chaos.
But I am on unpaid maternity leave until mid-June when I go back to work.
Should I ask for additional borrowing now - given that by the time the drawdown date comes I will be just four weeks away from returning to work? Or do I risk being turned down and therefore would be wiser to hold off until mid-June?

Woul your household income at the moment support the extra payments? It will be calculated on what you currently have coming in, not on your annual salary.

In the current climate, lenders are being incredibly picky, and you really don't want a refusal on your credit report. I would wait until you're back at work, frankly.
