My DH and I have a LOT of debt around 40k between us. I have started the motions of going on a debt management with Payplan and have just made the first payment. We have done this in my name as half the debt is in my name and the remainder in my DH's name is mostly HP and a loan which can't be put on without them taking our cars which are essential for work we both work full time and travel 100 mile round trip every day each. Plus we rent and it would really affect things if we had to move.

I owe to around 8 creditors and have contacted and explained the situation to all of them. Most have been quite reasonable and have only sent the odd letter about applying charges to my account due to default etc. However Barclays have contacted me everyday. I can't talk to them when I am at work and I get home at 8pm. I have spoken to them twice and explained the situation however today they have frozen my cards on both my accounts. I have no other money and no way of getting any.

my Dh and I both get paid friday and payplan are worried they will freeze our money which means no bills or rent can be paid no food or fuel to get to work.

We have an 11 mo daughter to feed too.

I just want to cry I cannot cope anymore. I feel like such a failure for it getting this bad.

My main question really was does anyone know if Barclays are legally able to do this without sending me a letter of notice or anything?

Sorry long but I really don't know what to do anymore.

Im afraid Payplan should have advised you to change your bank account before you went into a DMP? Did they do this?

Unfortunatley they do have the right to this it is called their right of off set!

Can you open a Coop cash minder account and get your employers to hold off paying you for a few days?

Open a bank account with a bank who you do not owe any money and phone your employers asap

Hi Thanks for your reply,

Sorry I forgot to say, I have changed my account but for somereason my card won't work so I am currently waiting for a new one and we have been waiting about 3 weeks for our new joint account to be set up so have no cards or anything for that one.

I am hoping my husbands joint account card will still work I am going to check later so that on friday as soon as we are paid I am going to empty the account and pay rent etc over the phone.
