Can anyone help or had the same problem . I had my child benefit stopped but have only just discovered it (9 months later). I never check my incoming direct debits and stupidly assumed I would get paid what i was entitled. The child benefit have claimed they contacted me but they got a reply saying i didnt live at my address . But sent me a letter recently for child tax credit ....when i challenged them they said they were not going to pay back more than 3 months. I am working full time and a single divorced mum.

I found this link on the DirectGov website entitled 'Problems with your Child Benefit: Where to Start'. There are some helpful looking sections on what to do if you're unhappy about a decision. Do keep a more careful eye on your bank account in future. Hope that helps.

Why was it stopped?

Tbh if you didn't notice you weren't getting it for 9 months then I'm sure you will be fine not having it backdated.

I agree with baabaa if you didn't notice it in 9 months then you could hardly have missed it.

That happened to me once for a month or two. I got a letter and I didn't take any notice so they stopped it. I got mine backdated because it wasn't for long. I think it's to make sure you are living where you say you are.
