Why would a loan not show up on my credit record? PPI related

I have been following the advice on here and from MSE trying to check out whether or not I have any PPI claims I can make. I have a terrible memory tbh so sent away for my credit record summary from Experian. However it does not seem to include all the past financial products I know I have had...I know for definite I once had a small loan from First Direct but this isn't listed - does anyone know why this would be?
Thanks!

Not all lenders subscribe to credit reference agencies. You may find that it shows up on an Equifax search but not an Experian one. I don't know if it is still the case now but years ago Lloyds loans did not show up on credit searches.

I found this too. I assumed it was because they were just too old, like it only recorded them for 6 years or so.

Thank you! I didn't know that re different credit agencies. I think in this case it might be because I submitted my current address and the one before, but not the one before that? Ironically I think that is prob the loan where I might have had PPI! Will try to track it down anyway.

For it to be on your credit file first direct would have had to have your consent. They only started insisting on is a few years ago. Therefore, if it is an old loan it would not be registered.

First direct have a ppi claims team. Just write to them at their normal address and they will check this out for you and let you know.

It's because they only go back 6 years. It wouldn't matter if you'd changed addresses as they would have you "linked to". I only know as I've done this recently for PPI also.

As aside, I've been quite impressed with Credit Expert/Experian. Signed up on a free 30 day trial, used it to look at history, rang up to cancel, they were great! I was expecting a hard sell to not cancel but they didn't even question why. Happy Shakey :)

If you finished the loan whilst living at another address then this is the address it will show at. Once it's settled it doesn't move. First direct do send their info to the CRA so it 's not that.

Thanks all, I will write to first direct PPI dept and see if they can find me. Fingers xd!
