Council Tax wolves!! Any tips on keeping them at bay?

Have not managed to keep up with our Council Tax for the past 3 months and have £303 arrears. They have put our account on hold until 28th Feb but there's no chance we can pay the full amount by then.

Anyone know the best approach to take when asking for longer to pay? Anyone know how long we could reasonably ask for?

thanks

I had arrears with my CT and I paid them 10pounds a week, over a year.

Sparkly, Hi may I ask how did you set that up?

Tell them you cant afford to pay it by then. You should be able to add bit extra onto your monthly bill until its paid, or pay on the 'free' months. (ct is 10 months of the year).

I got behind by 2 months just before I was about to get married. It was their mistake - they didnt take the money from my bank after I set up a Direct Debit. I didnt check money was going out as I was pre occupied with wedding.
They demanded all the money in 1 week. I told them they couldnt have it.
They threatened me with the Courts etc!

I told them that I would pay some before I was married and the rest in the 'free' months.

They accepted this, I gave them no choice but to accept it. As long as you make arrangements to pay and keep in contact they cannot do anything.
