Do you have a Cash ISA for the 2011/12 tax year? The limit there is £5,340 this year so you could put it all away for as long or short as you like, tax-free. Come April 5th you can open another ISA for the 2012/13 tax year and invest another £5,640. At the moment Cash ISAs are paying around 3%. Long term bonds are also worth looking at but the interest is taxable. If you're happy to put your money away for a full 5 years you can get bonds paying around 4.6%.

Recommend that you have a look at www.moneysupermarket.com or similar comparison sites to see which accounts are offering the best terms. Good luck
