I thought this was a scam - you wanted us to reveal our pin numbers so that you could go out and buy valentines presents for your beloved!!!

Chip and PIN cardholders beware!

In three weeks, all chip and PIN cardholders must use their PIN to be sure they can shop! After 14 February make sure you know your PIN number. Telling shop staff you have "forgotten it" will no longer be accepted - they won't be able to over-ride the keypad.

Don't panic if your card doesn't have a Chip - you can still sign for purchases until the card company upgrades and disabled cardholders who have a chip and signature card will still be able to sign. In these cases the PIN pad will automatically recognise that a signature rather than a PIN is required.

Advice

Contact your card company asap if you don't know your PIN - it can take a few days to come through and you might want the extra time to learn it.

  • If you have trouble remembering it you can change the PIN at a cash machine to a more memorable number

My Amex is still signature-no pin thank goodness

NannyL · 24/01/2006 09:51

you can still sign if the shop allows you too

(it just means the shop will be responsible for any fraudulant transactions, so most buisnesses wont take the risk!)

Kidstrack2 · 24/01/2006 09:54

I just recently kept muddling my 3 card pins numbers and using the wrong account for things that I had bought, so I went to the hole in the wall and changed all 3 cards to the same pin!

RTKangaMummy · 26/01/2006 11:57

You have until 14th Feb
