Just got an email saying

Dear [my email address]

This e-mail has been sent to you by Halifax UK to inform you that your account will be deactivated within the next 24 hours due to several unsuccessful login attemps on it.

To prevent this to happen please login securely to our activation link below:

Hmm OK then... needless to say I don't even have a Halifax account!

Just thought I'd post it here anyway in case anyone had the same.

I got that as well - and I do have a Halifax account!!! However, I regularly get similar mails claiming my Santander, Barclays, LLoyds and HSBC accounts are compromised.... and I have none of those so it's obviously a crock. I forwarded the one you mention to [email protected]

Annoying, aren't they?

ArseWormsWithoutSatNav · 24/01/2012 16:29

It is blindingly obvious - for a start it didn't even have my name, just my email address!

Halifax have this happen quite a lot. I've seen warnings up before on their site.

Had quite a few fake Paypal ones as well lately, you can forward them to [email protected]
