Dumbass credit card question

IslaValargeone · 16/01/2012 13:18

If today my credit card had £150 on it and the dd payment date was the 3rd of each month. If I then put quite a huge purchase on it today, does that then become due on the 3rd as well? Whereas if my credit card was clear and I made a huge purchase would my payment date automatically change to 30 days after the new purchase. If you understand that well done!

My understanding is that anything that you purchased today wouldn't become due until next month. However until you pay the £150 off it would count towards your limit so say your limit was £500 you wouldn't be able to spend more than £350 today. I'm not 100% sure on this.

If you have already had a statement saying you owe £X by 3rd Feb then that is all that is due on that day.
So todays purchase would be due 4th March.
I f you haven't used your card for a long time and it's clear, then I'm not sure if your payment cycle would shift - best give them a call.

I mistakenly told my dh that my card was clear, but I had £231 on it, minimum payment due 3rd Feb.
A large amount has gone on today but I wasn't sure when it would become due for payment. Dh is reimbursing for todays purchase but is presuming he has 30 days grace, now I'm worried that I have cocked things up somewhat by not having the clear balance he thought. Thanks ladies.

So you've had your January statement which said £231 - that is all that needs to be paid by the 3rd Feb (or the minimum payment they state).

Your Feb statement will include the big purchase and the payment for that (+anything you didn't pay off from your Jan statement) will be due on the 3rd March.
