any one know about mortgages?

We have just transfered our mortgage over and have been sent morgage deeds by solicitor.
This paper says that we need to sign and we need some witnesses. The thing is that there are slots for about 7/8 witnesses, how many do we need?
Do we need this many witnesses?

we had some stuff like that to sign for a re-mortgage so can't be sure it's exactly the same but it was two witnesses.

Ask your solicitor - it's probably just one required but they should have told you and you certainly won't look stupid by asking.
