Hi there, over 5 years ago I rented a house and when I moved here (down the street) took the phone number with me. TBH the landlord was rather dodgy, hence I was glad to move (and the house was rather damp) BUT yesterday I got a call and someone asked for him by name. I said no he lives up the street and gave them the house number.
Tonight my father who lives 13 miles away got the same call! How the heck did they get my dads number?
I asked him to press 1471 and the phone number was 01614752875. I googled it and it seems to be a debt collection agency called Moorcroft!!!!!!
I guess they have my number from when I lived at the old addy but how did they get my dads who lives in the country? Are they hacking my phone? What can I do?

Do you and your dad share the same surname?

Or did you share the same address once?

Do you and your dad share the same surname?
Yes 12 years ago before I married

Or did you share the same address once?
yes about 10 years ago

But it's someones elses debt not mine - a completely different name

Agencies, if they can't get hold of the person who owes money directly, will trawl through electoral rolls, telephone directories etc., until they find anyone that is connected either via name or address.

I would say your landlord has associated himself with you to get credit. I'd be requesting your credit file if I were you.

I had this - we moved house eight years ago and took our number. We got loads of calls earlier this year - it might have been Moorcroft too - but it was easily sorted. They'llbe calling all numbers associated with the house. Honestly, give them a call and explain. They were actually surprisingly helpful
