Feel so stupid and annoyed with myself. A friend asked me to check out some loans online for her as she has no internet access at the minute.

The site I went onto first required personal details to match you with lenders so not having hers I entered mine to get some quotes, all fine got some names of lenders for her.

A short while later I was getting ready to go shopping and checked my online bank balance before leaving and this company has charged me £70 broker fee!!! They had sent me an email saying I was now a member of their site.

Things are very tight at the minute and I can in no way afford this and anyways did not agree to or see any clear insruction on the website that this it what would be happening.
Please tell me I can phone them on Monday and they will refund this,am so pissed off (with myself and them)

You'll have to go to Cab on Monday morning and try to sort it out

Although did you give all your card details? Otherwise how could they have taken the money?

cjbartlett · 26/11/2011 14:45

I don't understand why you put in your bank card details at all

brodyboo · 26/11/2011 14:53

I put my bank and debit card details in, it was advertising the fact that you get your money within the hour and I thought they wanted details so if you took out a loan they could pay it out and set up payments.

Feel like a complete tit. Cant wait to tell dp when he gets homeHmm

When did you do this? My bank wouldn't show a transaction until the next day. I also don't understand how you could put your bank details in without realising that something was going to be charged.

brodyboo · 26/11/2011 14:55

Thanks for advice though, think Monday afternoon you can just drop in to our local CAB so if I get no joy from their customer services I will try there

It was this morning, I do online banking and it came up as a pos transaction, didnt have a clue what it was until I thought back to what I had been doing, then I found the email they had sent.

The bank details were included in the form that you would fill out to apply for a loan, I assume the information about charging you 70 was there somewhere but I didnt see it or I picked it up wrong

I would contact the loan company straight away & tell them to refund the broker fee payment as you signed up in error. If you managed to go through their application procedure without noticing you were about to be charged £70 then it can't have been very obvious that's what you were signing up for. To me, that's not good practice. Any decent company should give you your money back.

brodyboo · 26/11/2011 15:49

Have emailed them, no one at their customer service till monday. Think I am more annoyed at myself for just blindly filling in the form although agree that it should be made very clear what you are signing up for which it wasnt. Anyhoo lesson learnt, thanks for all replies.

Threaten them that you are going to take this to the small claims court, because you can do it and if you did you will
it helps to speed up getting the answer (not every time)

mrstimlovejoy · 28/11/2011 19:49

don't understand why you would put your bank details down when you were looking at loans on behalf of a friend
anyway hope you got it sorted out

brodyboo · 28/11/2011 21:22

I phoned first thing this morning, ready for an argument and they agreed to refund me straight away!

Thanks to all who posted, I think this has happened before, the girl on the phone didnt seem surprised at my request just said yes straight away.
