Is there any heating help for lone parents with an under 5 on a prepayment?

Lasy year I was entitled to Cold Weather payments which were quite frankly invaluable to me.

However, whilst talking to Eon who were trying to get me to switch from dual British Gas I asked them about the new offers the energy boards were suppossed to be doing to help vulnerable people. Their answer was that they do offer a discounted tarrif to lone parents of under 5's but only if you are a direct debit customer. Now I live in a rented council property and can't afford to get the meter taken out, people on meters are paying a higher tariff anyway and are generally those on lower incomes.

So have I, and others in my postion been royally stitched up by the govt and fuel companies or am I missing something? Does anyone know of any additional support available?

I shall ring British Gas in the morning to make sure, they send me a vouchur discount for being a duel fuel customer so I dont understand why they couldn't just send out a vouchur when the weather is very bad.

Voucher for what?

Don't think there is any help, you just have to budget to put more in the meters

You should be able to have it removed, I've changed energy suppliers before to get this done for free. I'm with EDF, you have to be with them for a month before they will change it. You don't have to pay.

I get a vouchur for being with British Gas for a year just take it to the shop and they top your key/card up with the same value.

My meters are well topped up this year and Im likely to be fine but for other parents who might be in the same situation I think its awful.
