I don't think I'm eligible from what I have read on the gov website, but wanted one bit clarified...

"Child Tax Credit which includes an amount higher than the family element"

What does that mean? I don't know if I have it or not!!!!

Thankyou oodles to anyone who knows

I'm not 100% certain of what it means but I applied for one when ds was due last year and got the full 500. I wasn't working but dp was. Apply anyway - you never know! I wasn't expecting to get anything either!

katymacracker · 10/12/2005 19:50

It's more than £545 per child (ie any extra over that - not including childcare)

FlameRobin · 10/12/2005 21:41

Thankyou. I'll give it a go - can't lose anything!

its if you recieve more than £548 per year. We currently recieve £547.50 a year and i rang sure start grant people who said i couldnt apply till baby was born and tax credit went up! You get 3 months from baby birth to apply. Pain cos need money now but was told NOT to apply before as it would be refused.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/12/2005 21:51

Bonkerz.... if thats true then I LOVE YOU. Just realised that I should be entitled to it.... I always thought that I wouldnt be because of DH working.

I now get £75.01 per week in CTC for both the girls so fingers crossed xxx

bonkerz · 10/12/2005 21:54

IT IS TRUE so love me loads! I rang them and said it was stupid cos i get 50p below the min and she agreed its silly but can do nothing about it! How long after rebeccas birth did TC sort themselves out for you cos im worried they wont review till child benefit is sorted and that could take ages! Sorry for gatecrashing flame robin!!

Frostythesurfmum · 10/12/2005 21:54

Make sure you get the claim in pronto. I claimed when tax credits eventually got my payments right, by which time I was past the 3 month after the baby's born deadline. My claim was rejected and I appealed on the grounds that if the tax credits people had got my payments right in the first place I would have claimed in time. My appeal was turned down as, although in theory I was right, there was nothing in the law to allow them to make a payment after the deadline. I then opted to go to tribunal - after all I had nothing to lose and £500 to gain! The tribunal ruled that they could not make the payment for the same reason, but approved an ex-gratia payment. A cheque for £500 arrived a week or so later, thank you very much.

Frostythesurfmum · 10/12/2005 21:55

Hello Flame - are you feeling better now?

bonkerz · 10/12/2005 21:55

heres the form!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/12/2005 21:57

Bonkerz... I phoned Tax Credits people the day after Rebecca was born, and I had my first payment the following week! Rebecca is nearly 7 weeks old now, so had better get that form in pretty damn quick!!!

NOW...... what can i spend £500 on?!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/12/2005 21:58

BONKERZ I LOVE YOU LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS!!

notasheep · 10/12/2005 22:18

I spent my £500 on premium bonds for ds,he has just had a £50 win so thats a 10% return already. We had kept everything after having dd,so luckily didnt need to get anything and we are swamped with hand me down clothes from numerous cousins.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 10/12/2005 22:22

i think ill put £100 into each of their CTF accounts, and me and DH will spend the other £300 on stuff for the house.... in other words bedroom furniture for Rebecca etc etc etc

notasheep · 10/12/2005 22:28

I am refusing to add any money to ds CTF as he will get it ALL at 18yrs old-who knows he might want to blow it all on Heroin!-hope not

FlameRobin · 11/12/2005 09:42

Thankyou sooo much all of you!!! Sufermum - yes, I'm feeling much better... headache finally eased yesterday

£500 will mean that this baby can have nappies and clothes etc

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/12/2005 12:56

Im not adding anything major into their CTF accounts.... only if we get payments liek this, i like to do it (not going to happen very often!)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/12/2005 12:57

Oh, and i have filled out my form, and im at docs this afternoon anyway so will get doc to sign the bit at the back!
