We are setting up a small business and we need to buy an accounting and payroll package. Anyone have any experience?

Sage, Quickbooks ??

SAGE is definetly best for accounting. Make sure you enlist the help of your accountant to get it up and running.

Payroll is quite expensive as you need to buy the updates annually, its not just a one off fee - £100 at least per annum.

You may want to ask your accountant if they could do payroll for you......the cost may be the same as getting a package.

As an accountant, I dont charge my clients more than £100 per annum for payroll if its a monthly payroll with only a few employees.

Hope this helps,

Why not just use a spreadsheet. My DH accountant recommends just using that as a cheap and easy to use idea rather than buying a package.
