I am so mad i could cry

As most of you know, I have rent arrears. Since July I have been paying an extra £65 a month on top of my rent to make sure theses got cleared. Paying it has been a real struggle but about 2 months ago the H/A rang me and said they were just ringing to inform me that as of the 1st December mty rent would go back down to normal.

I was really pleased, proud of myself for getting it cleared and pleased that we'd have the xtra money for xmas.

However the H/A have just rung again to tell me that there was a miscalculation and I still owe them £70 odd and so this month my payment will actually be an extra £75 pounds on top of my normal rent, and then back to normal in January.

I am soooooooo mad with them, how can they make such a mistake. The woman who rang said she was checking the account through because the amount had to be set back to normal, which was when she reliased the mistake. I asked her why the account hadn't been checked before someone rang to tel me the arrears were finnished, and she said she didn't know, but she was telling me now that it was wrong and wanted to know what i was going to do about it.

I went off my head at her a bit, cos she never even aplogised.

I have always thought that I didn't owe as much as they were saying, especially when I get staements saying I am in credit, but when you ring them they always say, yes but you need to be in credit by a whole month.

The cheeky cow said 'at the end of the day it's less than a weeks rent that you owe'.

A weeks rent is mega money to me

Oh nutty - these people are such bloody numbskulls.

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:39

I was going to set that money aside for food for over xmas, as we always tend to run a bit short what with everything else.

Can't believe what a bunch of low life, uncaring, thick tossers they are there.

is there anyway you can not pay it in december but pay it on January instead. Say its been mentally spent already on xmas however you will have it in Jan?

munz · 10/11/2005 11:42

would they accept u spliting the payment so £35 in dec and £35 in jan?

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:44

She said I could keep my payment for this month as just the extra £65 and then pay the extra £10 on Januarys.

She kept saying 'it's only an extra £10 to what you are already paying'

I said NO it isn't becausae my rent was due to go back to normal so it's an extra £75.

Whenm I said and I don't even get an apology, she said 'well i apologise on behalf of sanctuary'

Nearly told her to shove it up her arse.

charliecat · 10/11/2005 11:44

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:45

OP posts:
munz · 10/11/2005 11:45

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:45

It's paid by DD so they just change the amount.

OP posts:
charliecat · 10/11/2005 11:46

Rahhhhhh...cancel the DD lol

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:46

I just want it paid now TBH, but I just canniot believe they could get it so wrong.

I mean a few quid yeah but £75

Bozza · 10/11/2005 11:47

Yeah I would try and get in touch with someobdy more senior and lay it on thick about how you need the money and that you will pay the arrears in January.

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 11:48

There is a form I can fill in on their website for feedback.

Think i might have to do it when i've calmed down.

Shall I ring them back and ask for the name of the person I spoke to ??

Nutty, if you truly think they may have miscalculated go to CAB and they will work out whether it has been miscalculated. If it has you will have the satisfaction of asking them for a refund.

Sorry your having to deal with this. How dare she say 'at the end of the day it's less than a weeks rent that you owe'. If it's so insignificant why didn't they write it off? It is a lot of money to miscalculate. on your behalf.

winnie · 10/11/2005 11:53

You could put off paying on the grounds that you dispute owing it but will pay it when you are satisfied you owe it (ie go to CAB and get tehm to check). (What does a phone call mean?) Have you had anything in writing?

nutcracker · 10/11/2005 12:20

I will try and find the last statement I was sent and see if I can work it out, but tbh the statements they send are so compolicated, because although I pay by DD monthly, they break it down into weekly or fortnightly payments and they are always weird amounts.

She said she thinks the miscalculation came abut because of the rent increase in July, but thats crap cos they already took account of that when they worked out how much i'd got to pay, and plu, the rent increase was in July, so the person who rang me in October has no excuse.

your local cab will know how they work out such things. If in doubt challenge it. (I am sure they make these things deliberately complicated)
