Evening all

I hope somebody can help me please. Husband recently left me - i knew he had aload of debt - that he ignored, but i managed to sort out a payment plan for him. But i had to physically pay them every week myself - he buried his head in the sand.
Now iam worried that he wont keep to the repayment plan, and also today i came home to find another letter with another 9,000 euros worth of debt i didnt know about.

All the debts are in his name and i have not signed anything - am i liable for anything? and what if he were to die?

Have you contacted an agency like MABS, who I believe are a free debt advice service? Generally speaking, debts are personal to the named individual on the agreement. If the debts are in your husband's name, therefore, he is responsible for them. However, credit rating can attach to an address as well as an individual, so it is in your interest to point his creditors in the right direction.

You ask about what happens in the event of his death. If you think he could be suicidal, you should probably alert someone. If it's a more general question then the usual chain of events is that debts are deducted from the deceased's estate and the balance goes to the beneficiaries of any will. At the moment, his estate includes any marital assets.
