Bloody DP's work

Last pay check DP was about 50ish pound down, because of the bank hol he couldnt ask the accountant about it til today.

He called me this afternoon saying that work had fucked up his tax number or something? He now owes HM Revenue around £400. We're both fuming, we dont have that kind of money lying around and even if they took out a bit each month we're going to be down for years and with a baby and rent and bills to pay its going to be tough.

Whose fault is this? Im pissed off with his work for buggering up the tax number but I dont know anything about these issues, somethings gone wrong down the line but what is it?

April pay will be different because of changes in the tax personal allowance and NI that start in April anyway.

It sounds like HMRC has noticed the error and changed your husband's tax code for this year to take back the overpayment, so the repayments will effectively be spread over 12 months. It could be worth ringing HMRC and asking if they can spread it over longer, although they will prob just say no. (All according to DH who works in tax).

Thanks for the replies, he came home and said he owes HMRC 300ish pounds but it was his work's error so they are paying it for him, good job he has nice bosses!
