charges for returning an item

Purchased an item from an on line retailer and it has developed a fault withing the guarantee period. I have been asked to return the item with a cheque for £5 to cover postage and insurance. Is this fair? Sounds excessive to me.

Depends how big the item is but if its faulty I would expect them to cover the p&p. We had this with a TV and they wanted £40 (each way) p&p and would keep the tv for upto 6 weeks with no loan one. I will be reading the warranty small print in the future.

Its ony a small item. Only cost £8 in the sale and you can buy similar on the high street for not much more than the p and p and insurance they want.
