Student Panic Attack!

First post, someone recommended you lot.

I'm going to be a lone parent in July, I'm 22 and pregnant and just finishing my semester at uni.

For some reason I have this niggle in the back of my head that I would get LHA.

I know my income will be very low, the applicable about I think its like £150 per week according to the Leeds Website and my income per week from my student loan would be £88 and maybe £57 child tax credits if that is included.

Anyone heard of any students turned down for housing benefit when they shouldn't have been? I rent my new house (600pm) from July, I can afford first couple of months rent but baby isn't due till mid July so can't rent someone thinking I'll get the housing benefit (equal to £495 per month) and I won't.

ARGH

If you're a student you'll probably find your local student union is the best source for this kind of information.

They just are impossible to get hold of by phone or email!

Have you run your stats through the Turn2Us Benefit Checker as a next best option? Student Unions are usually specifically geared to what is available for students for obvious reasons but I think the Benefit Checker might have some good information as well.

Yeah it seems to say I am eligible for full LHA well as in full for 2 beds my area, I just developed this paranoid that the council would go NO!

Student lone parents are eligiable for LHA. The amount you get will depend on your student loans. In the summer you will get more than you would sept-July.
