HALIFAX MORTGAGE CUSTOMERS

Halifax have just sent me a letter saying they are giving me a goodwill payment (worth several hundred pounds) as the wording on my original agreement was unclear. I don't know how I missed this (I googled it and theirs loads of info on it!) but just thought it was worth mentioning that you may be eligable if you took your mortgage out with them between 09/04 and 09/07.
They have offered to credit my mortgage, but I rang them and they are also offering to send a cheque instead.

What did they write which was unclear?

darleneconnor · 12/04/2011 17:04

I'm due for this too, it's great!

MrsOliverQueen · 13/04/2011 19:35

Is it worth checking ot out before you accept? If you take the money you will probably be saying you are happy to make no further claim against the wording being incorrect should it cause you financial misfortune in the future.

I'm not normally such a money grabbing cynic but I reckon I'd check it out somewhere like moneysavingexpert.com first (they are a bank after all and banks never ever do anything out of pure generosity or goodwill!).

I've had no letter yet but received a mortgage statement which includes a 'goodwill' payment that was added at the end of March!

mossi · 16/04/2011 21:08

Yes, we've had the "goodwill" payment too. I wonder what it's all about.

blue22 · 18/04/2011 10:56

I heard about this on radio 5live about a month ago. Basically it's totally legit but not 'halifax's fault' iyswim - it was to do with a mistake from lloyds mortgages which they took over. Can't remember the details but if you google it, it might come up.

It's regarding the svr. I am just not that lucky and was on a fixed rate with Halifax so I get nowt!!! Typical couldn't win an argument!!

VivaLeBeaver · 29/04/2011 07:28

Ruthie - am in same position.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 29/04/2011 08:15

We had a letter too, was only on the svr for a handful of months but haven't gotten round to looking into it properly yet.

Ambi · 29/04/2011 08:48

I don't think we'll get it as we have only been on svr since Nov 10, not Jan 09. I'm never that lucky....
