Sorry, Another CTC/WTC Question

Hi, I applied for WTC & CTC last month and got CTC only (still pleased I got anything obviously), the amount of CTC they paid into my account was from Dec to this coming April. I have some (probably dim) questions, as have never claimed anything before) -

  1. Do I need to reapply for WTC/CTC in April, once we receive our P60s for the year? Or is it automatically recalculated for you?
  1. I'm on Mat Leave (Nov 2010 - August 2011) and only get SMP. Do I need to state that somewhere if I reapply? Do you think I should have included that in the last application? Or not, as it was based on the previous year's income?
  1. I go back to work part time in August, do I claim for Tax Credits now based on my SMP and then make another application in August when I return to work?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm finding it difficult to understand all the WTC/CTC/Salary Sacrifice stuff Smile

  1. You'll get a Tax Credit form each year.
  2. The declaration is for your total household income. The award for April 2011-2012 is based on your actual income between April 2010-2011. SMP is deducted from income to a maximum of £100/week for tax credit calculation purposes.
  3. Make the claim based on your April 2010-April 2011 income and, if your circumstances change significantly (like going back to work part-time) contact the Tax Credit helpline at the time and give them the new information.

The Turn2Us website has a very good benefit checker. You can check the 2010-2011 award and get an idea of your 2011-2012 award.
