even if you open an account with natwest is takes a while for the account to be set up - dh opened a new one and it took 2 weeks

It would be just as quick to bank it in your own account as it does take a while for a new cashcard etc to come through

But just to let you know it only clears quicker if the cheque was drawn on an account at the same branch.

My dad & I bank at the same branch, if a different natwest chq goes in it takes about 3/4 days. But if my dad gives me a chq - it is cleared the next day

Not much help tho' sorry

I think Natwest clears cheques when they feel like it but they do seem to do their own quicker. I get paid by a cheque and it usually takes the standard three days. Lat month it cleared overnight, when I checked my balance I just thought I was richer than usual so spent my wages thinking I still had them waiting to clear.
