Hand in notice - face to face or over the phone?

My dh has been waiting for his new job offer to come through in writing. It has arrived today and dh has to hand in his notice. He was in HO yesterday and it is a 4 hour round trip. Should he go in this afternoon to see his boss - or do it over the phone?

Well not a great relationship with his boss - he's one of the reasons why he's leaving.

post it special delivery, so it gets there tomorrow??

FangAche · 25/10/2005 12:16

I did it via an email!

Personally I would do it face to face, he might need a reference from them in the future, so no need to get their backs up at this stage. It's a matter of politeness. If they were to fire him, would you prefer they did it by telephone or face to face?

Its a large American insurance company -so he wouldn't be asking his boss for a reference - it would be the HR dept - so surely they wouldn't know if he did it face to face or not - they'd just have the letter on file.
