A new job when already pregnant - rights/duties to inform?

Anyone know. Have tried the archives but can't find anything.

I am only 7 weeks pregnant and not actually been offered new job but would have to accept it if I was as we are in financial dire straits and it is with a top top employer.

Am I obliged to tell them..... before offer, after offer.

Or is it the usual 15 weeks prior to due date like when you are already in employment.

Would you still be able to do the job if pregnant? Legally it probably makes no difference, but you would feel better if you could.

If they make an offer they can't retract it when you tell them you are pg. I think a mumsnetter successfully fought this.

I think I will wait to see if I get offer (will be a second interview first and don't even know if I've got that) then tell them if they offer me job.

Will appear sexist if they then retract offer. This company is very high up the Times Top 100 employers list so I think they will be pretty cool about it.

Tell them when you would have told an existing employer - for most people this is 12 weeks because you want to tell your friends at work. If you are new it could be longer.

Don't tell them until you have signed - you need the money!

The only bad thing is that it will affect your maternity pay - is you won't get it so you'l simpy live on SMP.

Bobbybob, We do really need the money, but I wouldn't want to start off on the wrong foot.

anyway all pie in the sky, as haven't heard yet.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, at about 3mths pregnant. I told them after they offered me the job. They rang, offered it, and then I said, there is something I should tell you. Legally I am pretty sure that they can't retract by then. I did feel a bit bad, but I didn't know I was pregnant when I applied, hated the job I was in, and knew I was only going to be taking a short maternity leave. It was a pity about the maternity leave, but worth the extra money in the long run. Anyway there are always things the employer doesn't tell you about the job - for example when I got that job they didn't tell me they were about to merge, which would require me to double my journey...
