Shares ISA's

I have a shares ISA which I haven't paid into for a few years, but as the market is still uneasy I thought I would transfer the money over to a more secure cash ISA.

However I have been informed today that this can't be done. The other way around is ok, (cash to shares, but not shares to cash).

I was wondereing what would stop me cashing in my shares then opening a cash ISA after Apri when the new allowance are allowed.

That shouldn't be a problem for you, BUT before you do have a chat with an independent advisor. The reason I say this is because there are many many investments that may be more suited to you if you are looking at investing longer term instead of ready cash.
