I had an idea that my MOT was going to run out in March but just checked my certificate as I had a worry in my gut and have found it ran out 2 days ago. Have now booked car in for Thursday next week which is the earliest my garage can do it. Is the car illegal in the meantime? Aaaaaaargh.

Yes, you will be uninsured if you drive the car with no MOT.

See here for more details, but there's no grace period, so you really shouldn't use the car other than to drive to the MOT on Thursday.

Can you get an earlier appointment, if you need to use the car?

Hi there, dont worry easily done, it happened to me a few years ago, since then I have discovered a garage that sends me a letter when MOT is due so I dont miss it again!

Im also sure you will be ok as long as you dont drive it on the road until you have passed your MOT, and obviously to drive it to the appointment.

Have a check for a no appointment needed MOT place that you can drive to first thing monday

This happened to us. When we bought our car we were told the MOT was due in October. It was actually due 6 weeks earlier but we hadn't realised! We drove around illegally for 6 whole weeks! Shock They did send us a reminder letter - 6 weeks late. That was quite an amusing phone conversation when they rang to chase up the business.

Thanks for the replies-we don't need to drive till Thursday so should be ok on that account, though I'm scared to drive it on Thursday even. Cannot believe how stupid we've been. Absolutely kicking ourselves.

That's good news. It does sound like you're covered to get it to the test, so try not to worry about it.

Hope it's a nice cheap one for you Smile.
