Tax credits stopped!!!!

hi i am in a panic wondered if someone can give some advice, i have recently applied for child and working tax credits and was asked to sign a form and return it by a certain date (posted it) i thought everything was ok and i received my first payment of both tax credits, however today i have received a letter from them to say they are stopping my tax credits and i have to pay what they have recently paid me because they didn't receive the signed letter, but i definitely did post it to them and within the specified time, HELP, i have to phone them in the morning to say that i did return letter,

how flexible are they will they make an exception and re-en sate my tax credits?? has anyone had experience with this i am panicking big time, if they make me repay and i have to reapply i will have no money to pay bills??

Speak to them, tell them you sent the letter and ask them for another copy if they have not received it.

AFAIK they cannot make you repay lump sum if you cannot afford if even if the money is due back to them. They will have to allow a reasonable time to pay it off with an agreed payment plan. In any case if you sort the missing form then hopefully you will not need to repay at all.

thank you cupofcoffee, was in a flat panic last night when i opened the letter, had just got home from work and thought shit what am i going to do, i am a newbie at all of this, anyhow i have eventually got through to them and apparently they did receive the letter but it was after the date they specified, but this was over the new year period when the post is hit and miss, so they are reinstating my awards, sooo pleased, thank you for replying.

WHen you get the copy send it next day delivery which requires a signature. That way you can prove they got it. Well assuming it's not to a PO Box of course...
