Can I ask for some compensation for hundreds of pounsd in bank charges being taken from my accont about 18 months ago, or is it too late? Halifax, went over overdraft. They were charging me for things like £6 transactions.

Anything's theoretically possible, but it would have probably been easier to complain at the time. www.moneysavingexpert.com has a lot of good information on the reclaiming bank charges and includes some template letters you can use to write to your bank.

I think a while ago this was all still up in the air and it was possible to ask for charges to be refunded- Money Savings Expert recommended you contact yr bank for yr last 6 year's worth of statements to see all charges and then you could apply to have them all refunded ... but this was while it was still being decided whether the charges were "fair". I think there's been a hearing which has decided that banks ARE allowed to charge you for being overdrawn etc. so you could well have missed the window of opportunity on this. Worth trying tho, but I think as well that you might be put to the back of the queue of all the other customer's who have asked...
