CAR TAX QUESTION

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/10/2005 19:06

I was going to change my name for this, but im going to blame it on PG hormones....

I thought the tax on the car was due end of oct and realised today it was actually end of sept....

Now, i have absolutely NO money, car is being fixed by my dad's neighbour at the moment (brakes and MOT) so dad has said he will tax it on saturday morning for me..... great.

WHEN WILL I GET THE £80 FINE THROUGH THE DOOR?!

I dont know but we have done the same Read somewhere if you pay it quickly its reduced to 40?

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/10/2005 19:11

Well i lost my car register form and forgot to register my car at my new address, so anyway to cut a long story short because i had not changed my address they sent the tax form to old address (form which you need to buy the car tax) so i phoned them as i realised i was not going to be able to change all this in time and the lady said to me, that they say they will give you 14 days grace after your tax has run out BUT she said they never actually look into there systems till about 1 month after, so i was not worry, Maybe you will not get a fine but if you do i don't know how long it takes!

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/10/2005 19:12

Did you not get your tax form thing through the post when your tax was due to be renewed?

LadyDragonOfSoup · 06/10/2005 19:13

You may find you can renew it until the end of sept next year and because it's computerised, this might stop the fine?? I thought it took a little while to come through so you may be lucky.

gingerbear · 06/10/2005 19:13

Think you have 14 days grace?

SleepySuzy · 06/10/2005 19:14

I didn't know they did monthly checks now.

You'll have to hope you're one of the lucky ones

charliebat · 06/10/2005 19:14

Just asked dp where the renewal thing would have went and he said it would have wnet ot the old addres...sigh

SleepySuzy · 06/10/2005 19:15

I do know for a fact though that you don't get ANY grace.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/10/2005 19:15

ive recently moved so the reminder and fine would go to the old house anyway..... hope to god i can get it taxed on saturday and not worry too much.

Just cant believe i made such a CRUCIAL mistake

But i thought you need the form to get your new tax?

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/10/2005 19:29

Well i went 18 days over due to the fact that i had not changed my address and was waiting for the forms to be sent to my new address, and i was given Grace and have not had a fine.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/10/2005 19:30

u need your reg docs or the renewal form - not both.

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/10/2005 19:32

ahh right thats where my problem was i had neither lol

SleepySuzy · 06/10/2005 19:33

Just be careful though, legally they do not have to give any grace. Good luck.

Mum2OneAndBump · 06/10/2005 19:37

oh believe me if i had had the forms i needed i would have brought my tax when old one had run out, i don't trust any of them

BROWNY · 06/10/2005 19:42

Just thought I'd let you know, that you can renew your tax disc on line, they have your insurance details and registration details on computer - and as long as you haven't moved address you can renew on line!!

P.S. You don't need your renewal notice as long as you've got your registration documents, MOT and insurance details. HTH

SleepySuzy · 06/10/2005 19:46

Ooo, yeah you can!
