fledtoscotland · 11/01/2011 22:15

Have just completed the online self assessment for my husband and we are getting a tax rebate Grin

how do we get the payment? the online form asked for his (our) bank details so does it get paid straight into our bank account and if so, when?

TIA

It will get paid into your bank account but as to when... that's anyone's guess. It could be in two weeks time or it could take months if they're doing "security checks" on the payments. Personally I'd give it about a month and then chase it up if nothing's arrived.

Last year DH got a rebate got dropped into bank account on 31st Jan as repayments are due that day as well as all our tax payments. His return was not submitted till late Jan last year.

I submitted my tax return online last June, gave them the bank details as usual, and received the money just two or three days later. I've always found them very prompt.

repayments are repaid when you tell HMRC that they are due (ie submit your tax return), not on 31 Jan.
Generally from an e-return then you should get the refund within a couple of weeks - unless as riksti says they are doing "security checks".
