Just received news that my car needs £1332.99 spending on it! Basically the clutch is onthe verge of caving in. It's only an 07 reg so seems totally crazy. Anyone any knowledge of paying these unexpected lump sums in installments?
Thankyou!

that's alot for a clutch! what sort of car is it?

MrsWicket · 28/10/2010 16:18

it's not a renault is it? that's the kind of eyewatering prices those guys charge...

It does sound a lot - I thought it should be about £400 so did a quick google search and found this £1332 seems way over the odds.

Are you sure they aren't doing something else like changing the cambelt?

Is at a main dealer or local garage. We had a huge quote from a chain garage and phoned round a few smaller, independent places and found we could save a lot.

peugeot 207

Hells teeth!!! I have had several Peugeots (currently have a 307) and I have never paid anything approaching that much!!!

Mind you, one of the most expensive clutches on the list I linked to was a 207 but even so that was only £470.

Are you sure they haven't done anything else? If they have done something without your agreement, I don't think you are obliged to pay for it but you would need to check the facts on that.

bump for bronte, here is your thread! lol

go to another garage and get another quote!

LucindaCarlisle · 28/10/2010 16:37

Take it to another garage.

LIZS · 28/10/2010 16:38

Sounds a lot - are you sure it is just the clutch ? How many miles has it done ?

Thankyou everyone! Got straight on the phone to the local garage that always does my tyres and got exactly the same response as you lot. They can dothe work for £860 all inc. Explained this tothe dealer and bossy receptionist said thay couldn't cancel the order. Fell apart at this point and handed phone to other half who had a conversation with the service manager. Straight away he knocked 300 quid off!! But still couldn't match the cheaper quote. Will collect my car tomorrow.. so long as they hand over the keys to me!And deliver it to friendly local garage. Lesson learnt.
