i had various debts with store cards and catalogues and have spent the last 18 months paying them off. I thought that i was paying the last one off and would be debt free in feb 2011. Yesterday i got letter from lowell finance to say that they had bought a debt from shop direct in may, and that i owe £1800.I cant find paperwork about the account but have looked at my credit file and the debt says that it is satisfied. What shall i do? help please?

Find out the date that it was settled on your credit file and then contact Lowell and ask for all the information they have on it. Do not give them any information, just say you have settled most accounts and you need to consult your records and get back to them.

It may be that shop direct have registered it as settled because they have passed it on so to them that is settled. However, I am not sure on this.

Ring shop direct if you need to and ask them to confirm a few details.

Lowell are generally ok to deal with. Good luck I hope you get it sorted.
