My best tip for saving is 'pay your savings account first' and manage your budget around what's left. If you set up a DD into a savings account to come out straight after you get paid you get used to managing on slightly less and it's easier.

Other tip... menu plan. Haphazard shopping, takeaway top-ups and multiple trips to supermarkets mean you spend way over the odds

Finally... use comparison sites regularly and get the best deal you can on utilities and other regular bills. Deals change all the time and if you snooze, you lose.

You can start off by writing down all expenditure in a notebook - everything, including small purchases like newspapers, sweeties etc. Then you can identify where you are splurging and consciously cut it out. When you've done this, do a monthly budget so you know what your fixed outgoings are and limit your shopping so you have some money left over to put away. Aim to save 10% of your take home pay.
