Wondered if anyone knew if I could claim benefit for not being able to work due to anxiety and agarophobia problems.
My DH works and we claim child tax benefit ,we have 2 children.
Fianancially we are struggling and I am currently have CBT therapy for my problems but am unable to work at the present time.
Does anybody know if I could get fianancial help?

I get DLA for my depression and have in the past claimed incapacity benefit. Your illness, disbality needs to affect your life in a serius way preventing you from working, you will need to pass (or fail I suppose!) a medical. You get the forms and apply.

The amount of benefit you get, however, may affect your tax credits. It must be reported, at any rate, even DLA. If you are in receipt of housing or council tax benefit, it must also be reported.

Thanks twinsetandpearls-
I will get some forms and send off.
Have not claimed anything like before so not sure how it works.

Expatinscotland-We do not recieve any housing of council tax benefit ,just child tax benefit.
This gets very confusing.

Would it be best to ring up the inland revenue and inquire?

Wouldn't bother consulting the tax credit office until you're actually awarded any type of benefit for your condition. THEN tell them. In writing. Recorded delivery.

Incapacity benefit would prob be your best bet, forms can be tricky but if you go to your nearest citizens advice buerau (i spelt that wrong) they can help with that sort of thing. you will also prob need a doctors sick note, good luck!

When you next go to your doctor and get your sick note, tell him you need to apply for Incapacity Benefit. He should give you the form there and then to fill in.
