Allowances/Grants for carers?

I have a friend whose 3 yr old DS has just been diagnosed with Wilms. As a consequence, while he is going through his treatment she will be unable to work and her and her husband are already in a tight financial situation.

Does anyone know if there is any money out there that she would be entitled to in this scenario? Or where I can try and find out more info for her?

Thanks.

she can claim carers allowance of 53.10 a week if her ds is recieving dla at higher or middle rate. also she needs to apply for dla for her ds if she hasnt already. is her husband working? if so theres only the dla and carers as far as i know she would be entitled to but tax credits will change if shes no longer working and may go up, and when dla is awarded if its at higher or middle rate that adds some to tax credits too. if they go on entitledto.com they should be able to find out if they are getting everything they should. their lower income could also possibly entitle them to housing and council tax benefits.
