Mobile Contracts

My DS has a PAYG phone but I am wondering whether it is easier to have a monthly contract. If for instance we took one out for £10 per month what would happen if he went over this amount. Would we get a warning (I am paying for it!)or would the bill just turn up...

He is about to start boarding school so needs something but I dont want him chatting for hours to his friends on their mobiles not realising what the cost is! He says that he knows that mobile to mobile is expensive but you know what these teenagers are like.

I have put £40 on his phone and I would like to see how that goes before he is let loose with a contract but any advice would be very much appreciated.

My daughter has one for £15 a month but that has unlimited texts and about 100 minutes of talk time. It is called dolphin 15 I think with Orange. Think they might also give you free broadband if you have a contract with them.
