Can you recommend a bank account for DCs age 5 and 7?

DS2 thinks he is too sophisticated to keep his £8.72 in a jam jar and wants a bank account. He has discovered he will earn interest on his savings at a bank and is all for it.

I'm looking for something that pays a decent rate of interest and doesn't give them a toy for opening an account.

Ideally it would be somewhere we can walk to deposit money on a Saturday, but that limits it to the Post Office - there are other banks near us but they are only open in the week when DH and I are at work.

Any suggestions?

Halifax always seem to be recommended for childrens' accounts and I'm pretty sure they open on Sat am. I opened accounts for my DCs a while ago and there were no toys.
I think under age 7 it has to be in your name as well as the childs and then after that they can run it themselves.

Just realised I meant Nationwide, not Halifax, sorry
