Tax Credit Balls Up

So I renewed my tax credits in time over the phone, they said, it's all ok. To be sure I sent off my letter with 3 days to spare (including same info I said on tel, a self employed, accountant got it all done with a few days to spare) get home from work tonight to a letter that says.....you've not informed us of your tax credits, so we've stopped them and you owe us a bucket Shock WTF????

Hello, did we not have that phone conversation? did I not send you the form too??? and I spent a whole hour trying to get hold of someone (anyone) only to be cut off each time as they're busy! (thank you for calling, we're busy, try again later, kerching...)

Anyone else got the same problem?

Yes Yes Yes!! Spent hours yesterday trying to get through for the same reason - only
to be told to try later and then cut off.
Got through this morning after holding for
35 minutes and the problem is now resolved, but this should not have happened at all.
This has been a distressing 24 hours. Why are there not enough staff to answer the phones???

Phew so glad it wasn't just me! (although you have my huge sympathies) the chap on the phone when I eventually got thru said they had a full record of my renewal in July, but for ? reason the system had booted it out Shock meanwhile I'm now having to arrange an excessoverdraft (and am going to claim back all the phone calls to them, plus overdraft charges that we've incurred due to them cutting off our fund and probably not re instating for upto four weeks ShockAngry)

If I were a cynic, I'd say this was done to make the goverments cash flow look better Hmm
