Tax credits - can't get through to renew! What will happen

I thought I'd renewed ages ago but checked the paperwork and it was just put through as a change of circumstance.

I gleefully had I think thrown away the declaration because I thought I had done it and they would send me a confirmation.

I have been sent no reminders. But I have also tried calling them about 34235 times a day for the last week and can't get through.

Worried about what will happen, we're v poor as DH made redundant and need the money.

What to do? What will happen if I haven't done teh declaration and I don't get through today?!

I just rang the 01355 number and got told it was now only dealing with child trust funds Hmm and I should ring the 0845 number for tax credits.

Oh my goodness - just rang them as I'm waiting for a payment to go in and I wanted to know when it will be in my account. Was told that it's an overseas line and I'm not allowed to use it! I hasten to add, this was AFTER he took me through security, and he said he wasn't allowed to continue with my enquiry! I told him it's been costing me a fortune to try the 0845 number on my mobile and that I haven't got through for weeks (true!), he pointed out that I rang the other day and got through - I pointed out to him that was on this number, and NOT the 0845 number. He was a right twunt, not impressed at all! Wondering if I should try again and hope another agent answers, or just leave it... Hmm

I wouldn't mind, but the agent the other day didn't mention a word of this, or the time before that!! Shock

just came on here to see if anyone else was having trouble getting through. Just rang magic number on here answered within 4 rings and all sorted. Mumsnet is so so fab.

Now just waiting for my tax return to send me a submission receipt

If your having trouble getting through to renew you "tax credits", Call 01355359007, you will only get through from a mobile phone as they are screening calls from land lines, this number is for overseas callers so when they ask where you are calling from, tell them your on holiday somewhere or they cut you off good luck, I dont know how long it will work for

Just a point here, I do live overseas and have been dialling the international number for days and only got through on my third day after waiting on the line for 25 minutes. This is costing us a small fortune. So can you please consider that when calling.

CALL THE 01355359007 FROM UR MOBILE AND U WILL GET THRU STRAIGHT AWAY. U CANT CALL FROM A LANDLINE OR IT WILL DISCONNECT U AS ITS FOR INTERNATIONAL CALLS. JUST CALLED AND ALL DONE. YEE HA

I've sat like so many of you trying to get through so I googled trouble getting through to tax credit, bingo up came this thread. I also tried the no above & it said you're calling from uk phone back on 0845 number so I stuck 141 in front of number & bingo STRAIGHT THROUGH!!! N for anyone else who's worried I haven't received my renewal pack so my deadline has been extended .... so ring that 01355 359007 with 141 before it!!!

I struggled to get through as only just receive my OH net profit from his accountant. Last week I tried several times in the evening, gave up after 20 mins each time. Last Friday i rang at 0800hrs and got through straight away.
I got so hacked off as you have to listen to nearly 4 mins of a lady talking through the options etc would help if they told you what position you are in the queue or approx waiting time.

Thanks so much.. I just done this after constantly calling with no luck.. Placed 141 before the number and told them I am on vacation in Spain and there was no questions asked they just dealt with my renewal.. All done and dusted :) When I first called the number, I said I was out of london and the woman informed me that she can not continue the call grrr so I dialed straight back and told them I am on vacation and Booya case dealt with..

Thank you so much for your advice.. Now I can go and get ready for work and possibly have a stress free day :) xx

Saw this thread after wasting time & money listening to the looong winded messages on pubilc numbers, only to reach a recording 'we can't take your call, call another time?!'. Got straight thru on the 01355 number, no questions asked, renewal all done. ChristianTheSeventh, thanks so much! Im storing that number..

THANK YOU ChristianaTheSeventh!!! I was getting a proper headache! Finally I was able to speak to a person (!) who was brilliant and helped me out even though I can't lie and didn't make out that I was abroad. Think she got how much I was starting to panic bless her heart, lol.
I've said it before, many a time, but I really am not going to let my lack of organisational skills get in the way next year Blush...especially as apparently you can only use this alternative number once...
Had to register just so that I could thank you...Thank you, thank you, thank you...I am elated!!!! Grin

I tried the 01355 and was asked where I'm calling from, I'm to honest I guess so failed miserably.
It wont help many but I got through in the end by phoning child benefit to inform them my 16 year old son was carrying on in full time education, I gave them the details for that and asked to be put through to tax credits and guess what, straight through in less than 1 min and renewed.

I can't get through either and i have still not renewed. Renewal date was yesterday but i have sent my form off although only posted it yesterday. I am supposed to be getting tax credits tomorrow. Does anyone know if I will still get them or do they really stop that quick. (Wondered if they would stop next Thursday or this)? Can anyone help?

i couldnt get through to tax credit office for weeks they just kept saying call back and cut me off, i came across mumsnet and phoned the 0135 number and got through in seconds and renewed, very helpful person. thank you for the number.

Just bumping this to say I phoned the 01355 number from my mobile just now and got straight through, wasn't asked where I was calling from.

Many, many thanks to the person who posted it. I was getting so stressy with all the chargeable 3.5 minute long calls to the 0845 number where I had to listen to the menus and recorded messages before getting cut off because they were too busy!

I have just tried the 01355 number and there is a recorded message saying that it is for international customers only and that I was ringing from the UK.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I did get through on the 0345 number today, after many attempts and being cut off as too busy.

Keep trying those of you that can't get through.

I just tried from a mobile too and the lady told me I couldn't do my renewal using that number.

i'm having a nightmare to, wouldn't normally leave it so late but my husband is self employed and only got accounts back 2 days ago, just keep getting hung up on saying they can't deal with the call at the moment and try later! So frustrating!
Wondering weather to send it in the post regardless and it be late, but really need to update changes as well.
They are open till 10 tonight so may just try later tonight.

I only got DH's accounts back this morning so I've been trying all day, just ringing the other number from my mobile hopefully I will get through soon.

Ive just used the above number to get through after weeks of trying and was successful but you do need to use a mobile, if you use a landline it knows you are calling from the uk and cuts you off. I did get a stroppy mare though who told me to ring the usual number and we argued about it being impossible to get through on the other number because they are very very busy but that's no good to the public is it!

Think they might have got wise to this, just tried from a mobile and got the 'you're calling from the UK. Please try 0345....etc'
Been trying to get through for 3 weeks now to tell them we've had a baby. Not sure how else to get through to them when I've tried countless times a day at different times.
