Cheques - I HATE the Halifax........

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 11:26

silly bank, takes 6 working days to clear a cheque - and therefore a cheque depostied today won't be ready until the 31st of the month

They told me if the cheque had been made out from an account at this Halifax branch they may have been able to help, but it came from a different branch so they couldn't do anything.

Now my mum's stressed out because the cheque she sent to help us (only £25 - but still better than nothing) won't be ready until after DH gets payed LOL.

It used to only take 4 working days but they 'upped' it last year.

It sucks, doesnt't it

Could she send some cash by reg post?

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 11:29

Jan - she can't get to the bank when my Dad's around (he doesn't know about it) as she's got Parkinsons' and it takes her too long to get there and back, if she says wants to go up to the town he insists in taking her in the wheelchair and then she's scuppered.

Oh

Time to change banks? I have A&L, you can either post a cheque to them or pay it in at the PO, and it's usually available within 3 working days.

misdee · 20/08/2005 11:33

i can pop a note in the post today, so u will get it monday.

Janh · 20/08/2005 11:34

A&L

If you opened an a/c with them as a recommendation from me we'd both get £50 and you could have mine too (wouldn't be this week though!)

misdee · 20/08/2005 11:36

everyone has helped me out loads over the last 2months, i want to help, please let me.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 11:37

Sounds great Jan - but I'm usually lucky to pay £10 a month into my account - never mind £1000

misdee · 20/08/2005 11:47

CAT me your address over.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 11:52

No - you need that money more than I do - you've got three young children and an ill DH who you have to spend money visiting.

I won't give it to you - and rest safe in the assurance that there's no way you can find my address as we're ex-directory and can't be found on 192.com (I know because I checked the other day after I was looking for something else).

OP posts:
QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 11:53

oh cr*p actually there is a way to find it - but it's not too straight forward

I think all cheques and banks are ridiculous. Cheques should be cleared instantly or within minutes in this day and age! Everything else is electronic. Grrr, drives me crazy lol

misdee · 20/08/2005 12:05

well do u need any nappies or anything? i have some size 3 (midi is it?) disposables that i dont need.

PiccadillyCircus · 20/08/2005 12:11

QueenofQuotes, we're with the Halifax, so if I did a direct transfer to you, wouldn't it get there immediately? Let me know and I can transfer some money to you if you want.

Milge · 20/08/2005 12:12

have you got a paypal account?

colette · 22/08/2005 20:58

I used to work for them , it was not a lot of fun - she could pay cash directly into your account so long as she has your sortcode and account number. This should show as cleared funds straight away.

QueenOfQuotes · 22/08/2005 23:08

"she could pay cash directly into your account so long as she has your sortcode and account number. "

Yes she could - except for the reasons explained on the 3rd post of the thread

I HATE the Halifax. I really, really do. Western Union is actually cheaper and faster.

snafu · 23/08/2005 12:19

They are unbelievably crap, aren't they?

I had a joint account with them when I was living with an old boyfriend. When we split up, I filled in all the paperwork to put the account into his name only. I sent it all off, didn't hear anything, assumed it was all okay.

12 months later I received a letter from them thanking me for the paperwork and telling me they were 'considering my request'!

Bless 'em, useless bunch of twats.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2005 12:22

Have to say - apart from the 'cheque clearance' issue I've never had a problem with them, been with them since I was 14 - so 12yrs now. Can't really be ar*ed to change, - I don't have a regular income coming into my account, usually I'm not desperate for a cheque to clear quickly - and, I never get any sales calls from them offering me stuff, and only occasionaly get junk in the post from them.
