Hello,

I joined Mumsnet today and would love to join in a bookswap if anyone has a space?

I love to read, anything and everything, and commuting to work 3 days a week means i get 25 mins each way to bury myself in a book.

I think I get the gist of how this works and would love to join a group if there is a space anywhere....

Many thanks
K

theslumbertaker · 23/04/2010 10:52

Well done mudandroses, that name seems fine to me. I've read beyond black by hilary mantel already, but none of your other titles.

My list:

number 9 drea - david mitchell
betty blue - philippe djian
the road - cormac mccarthy
disgrace - j m coatzee

How about the rest of you?

MudandRoses · 23/04/2010 14:52

Have already read Number 9 Dream and Disgrace. Happy to read the others.

By the way, in order to exchange addresses, please feel free to email outandaboutwithkandj at gmail.com with yours (please include your MN name too!) and I'll forward out a list of addresses.

theslumbertaker · 23/04/2010 17:14

i guess we might have some similarities in our taste for books then mud, I'll look forward to reading your selections! will email with my address.

Exogenesis · 23/04/2010 19:28

Ohhh I've not thought about which books to send yet?

I may may ths a little confused . I thought you sent one book to the next person on the list and recived one in return (from the person on top of you on the list) and the next month you passed on the book that you got the month before? Is this not it? Oh i'm so silly Happy to do whatever.. Best go and fnd four books. i so can not wait!

Exogenesis · 23/04/2010 19:35

"mudandroses" I've sent you an email with my addy and " real " name

MudandRoses · 23/04/2010 20:41

Exo yes that's right, the only reason we're suggesting four is so people don't get sent ones they've already read (tho I suspect that might happen a bit anyway). Everyone will only choose one of the books on their list to send.

BTW I don't know if there's any genres people want to avoid - personally I'm not a huge fan of horror, for example. Though I tend to think if it's good enough for another mum to recommend it, it's probably worth a try!

Thanks for the addresses, will wait a bit and collate the others into one list if possible.

Exogenesis · 24/04/2010 19:01

Ah ha so we choose 4 books now but only send one on? Give people a chance to say if they have read it? Yes, No am i getting warmer... I wish i could use baby brain as an excuse but i can not my dd is 4!!!

moocowmrs · 24/04/2010 19:17

Would love to join, is there still space for one more?

nowit · 24/04/2010 20:35

I have read Cormac Mccarthy The Road, but it is amazing (Very sad) but would recommend highly.

Ok so my list :
Beloved by Toni Morrison
The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe
Patrimony by Philip Roth
We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates

Let me know what you think?

I will email details later. Are we going to start this in May?

theslumbertaker · 25/04/2010 10:02

I must admit, after i listed those books, I did realise that none of them are particularly cheery tales (esp. the road!), so I hope nobody minds that...

Nowit i've read beloved which was very good, but none of your others so look forward to that

nowit · 25/04/2010 14:48

None of my books are very happy either! But they are all great reads.... I promise

pinksupergirl · 25/04/2010 20:53

Besom - how are you about chick lit? I'm a little concerned that my books are not going to be varied enough so I don't want to say I'll be posting books but then you'll be disappointed, my selections are generally Marian Keyes, Lisa Jewell, Cecelia Aherne, Dorothy Koomson, Jane Fallon. I do also have Long way round (Charley Boorman & Ewan McGregor), Dave Pelzer - A boy called IT plus other 2 all in 1 book (I've only actually read 'A boy called IT' then I've got a more horror/thriller type which I can send in a few months after I've read it, and I've also got 'Confessions of a working girl' which is along the lines of Belle De Jour (its very rude so not sure if you'd want that or not). Please let me know what you think, I won't be offended if you're not happy or if there is anyone else on the list who does like the look of this selection then perhaps we can swap the list around. Sorry to be a pain everyone, it wasn't until I looked that I realised how my selection is all quite similar to each other.

MudandRoses - have you put yourself as 'Mudandblossom' on the list?

MudandRoses · 25/04/2010 21:00

Yes, sorry, MudandBlossom is another screen-name !!

Pink - note that we all get to read all the books - we just keep sending on the one we received, on the planned date each month - so we all need to decide together if there are genres we don;t want. Having said that, I think we should be open minded - I would say, pick your favourite, (or favourite 3) and just suggest them! I'm sure they will be enjoyed or at least stir debate - and that;s the point

nowit - I have read Beloved too but none of t'others - all sound good! Hopefully we'll get everyone on board before the May date.
moocowmrs - I don't see why not - it just means the group will run for 13months instead of 12

moocowmrs · 25/04/2010 21:11

Great just tell me what I need to do and I will have a think tonight about my four books. Very excited now

nowit · 25/04/2010 21:56

I have nothing against Chick lit, sometimes nice, make sure i get it in June for my hols I have all of Marian Keyes, but none of the others.
mud did you get my email?

pinksupergirl · 26/04/2010 09:55

oh I see! I thought we had to have 12 books already that we would post out throughout the year! duh! That's fine then, I'll have a think and put my 4 options on later.

theslumbertaker · 26/04/2010 15:40

pink - sorry i didn't mean to sound really dismissive about chick lit, I would be open to reading anything, i should really open my mind about some genres, I'm sure i would be pleasantly surprised

MudandRoses · 26/04/2010 18:30

Hi, yes I did get it nowit, thanks. I am waiting til I have more people on board, then will send out a list with all the addresses. Seems to have gone a little quiet - we may need to wait a while?

moocowmrs · 26/04/2010 19:15

Right my four are

Notes on an Exhibition Patrick Gale
The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini
East of the Sun Julia Gregson
Change of Heart Jodi Picoult

Hope you have not read them all !

theslumbertaker · 26/04/2010 20:03

have just read the kite runner, none of the others!

pinksupergirl · 26/04/2010 21:08

Mudandroses - I've just sent you an email with my address on. I haven't read any of the 4 books you've listed so I'm happy to have any, although I do like the sound of 'The point of Rescue' or 'home' but I'm happy for you to decide between any of them for me.

My 4 options are:
Game Over - Adele Parks
The Friday night knitting club - Kate Jacobs
Second Chance - Jane Green
Getting rid of Matthew - Jane Fallon

moocowmrs · 27/04/2010 12:44

Pink I have not read any of those so also happy to recieve any of those

nowit · 27/04/2010 15:25

Pink, I haven't read any either, great choices

pinksupergirl · 27/04/2010 17:38

Great! Are we just waiting for everyone to put their 4 options down and to email their addresses and then we can get it going?
It will be nice waiting for the post to arrive each month!
By the way, I just wanted to say that I apologise for my rubbish username!! I couldn't think of anything and I already use this elsewhere that I set up years ago, I am actually 31 and not about 12 like my name suggests!!
