lready offered to get involved. I would LOVE to get involved. LOVE IT. Am I one of those deemed to be suitable though. That is the question?

shootRudolphinthehip · 05/12/2008 17:45

'I already', sorry!

TinselianAstra · 05/12/2008 17:46

Is there some sort of screening process?

shootRudolphinthehip · 05/12/2008 18:17

I hope not- am not sure that i'd pass rigorous screening at the mo. Would love to be 'on board' though.

psychohohohoho · 05/12/2008 18:47

oooh, screening process.

nope, none that I know of, you just need to copy and paste and add your name and as long as you not over the 12 needed, you're in.

flamesparrow · 05/12/2008 18:48

Excellent, many thanks. Will have to invest in CAT . Now I have something to do with my weekend: choosing a fabulous book to pass on. Please forgive (in advance) any stupidity that may ensue re book choices etc .

flamesparrow · 05/12/2008 20:09

contact a talker

You don't have to invest in CAT - just turn it on to "receive messages from..." in your profile.

Or it could be that you had changed to xmas name and I couldn't find you

FlossieT · 06/12/2008 01:55

One small suggestion - feel free to shout me down, but I'm suddenly feeling all anxious about my book pick. How about we all name one book we loved (doesn't have to be "favourite", just one we loved) and one we hated? Just think it might help calibrate things a bit.

I know the idea is to read stuff we might not otherwise do, but I don't want to pick a book that everyone will hate - I have quite, um, eclectic tastes...

Just an idea.

flamesparrow · 06/12/2008 08:54

Can do if you like - I can see all of us having such a range of hates though that it will probably confuse you even more

Cocodrillo · 06/12/2008 09:11

I didn't much like 13th tale ITH!

TinselianAstra · 06/12/2008 09:37

As long as it's written in English, with punctuation and paragraphs and things, I'll read it.

flamesparrow · 06/12/2008 09:44

Arse.

TinselianAstra · 06/12/2008 12:27

You were going to make us read Ulysses were you Flame? I'm glad I mentioned it then.

sherby · 08/12/2008 20:40

roll up roll up

Cocodrillo · 09/12/2008 17:12

no idea what to send out

FlossieT · 09/12/2008 23:51

Will people mind if I send a large-format paperback? The book I've been thinking of sending out is one - but I appreciate that in these crunchy times the postage may be a PITA. I can easily pick something else if it would be too much?

Cocodrillo · 10/12/2008 08:28

I don't mind - so long as it's good

TinselianAstra · 10/12/2008 16:49

Put it on your kitchen scales FLossie, prices for second class (as a packet, not via parcel post) are as follows:

Packet
Length: over 353mm
Width: over 250mm
Thickness: over 25mm

Weight range Second Class at new prices
0-100g 95p
101-250g 124p
251-500g 163p
501-750g 208p
751-1000g 249p

sherby · 10/12/2008 17:43

I don't mind

We'll only be sending it on once each no?

TinselianAstra · 10/12/2008 17:46

The largest paperback I own is 550g, so would cost £2.08 to send on, and most books will probably be lighter, so that's less than £24 for the whole year.

I like bigger books - more words dontcha know!

Flamesparrow · 10/12/2008 18:22

I;ve got it in my head that someone didn't want big books this time, but can't remember who. I have no issue with it.
