Anyone fancy joining a new book swap?

I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me in a new Book Swap. I was part of one on here for a couple of years that worked really well, then we all got a bit busy and decided to give it a rest. Now no-one on MN seems to do them anymore!

The idea is that you get a small group together (up to about a dozen) of people who enjoy reading similar genres or are prepared to try something new. Everyone then chooses a book they have enjoyed, that’s not really famous or a bestseller. On the first day of each month, you post your book to the next person on the list...and then the same again on the following month. We posted chocolate too last time but that’s not compulsory! The idea is that you get to read books you haven’t heard of, and chat about them if you want to.

Some of the books we ended up reading last time: The Water of the Hills, Cutting for Stone, The Snow Child, On The Black Hill, Prince of Tides, The Weather in the Streets, Any Human Heart, Cat’s Eye, A Month in the Country.

Anyone interested? [worries about tumbleweed blowing over thread as no-one remembers book swaps]

Oh keith, Keith, keith, boy, are you going to be disappointed. Grin

RatOnnaStick · 29/04/2016 16:14

disappointment here too keith as our usual line in chocolate is Freddoes Grin I shall endeavour to get something more grown-up before posting date. Now to choose something from the bookshelves.

RatOnnaStick · 29/04/2016 16:15

Are we sending real names or MN names or both?

Hadmeathello · 29/04/2016 16:23

Is it too late to be included? I would love to be part of this.

mailfuckoff · 29/04/2016 16:30

Ratonastick
I had to do real name otherwise the post person at work will be really confused. I'm hoping whoever gets my details is grown up enough not to misuse them

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 29/04/2016 16:42

I was a bit worried about connecting real name and MN name but I figured it's mutually beneficial to everybody to be discreet and book people are good people Smile

Also more worried about DP seeing post with my MN name and figuring out how much time I spend on here so wouldn't want post coming addressed to IC! Blush

KeithLeMonde · 29/04/2016 16:49

OMG I totally love Freddoes Rat :)

Would have loved to address envelopes to mailfuckoff and Cunties. Might do that anyway, just for the LOLZ....

artifarti · 29/04/2016 16:52

Yes, the real name is for postie purposes - feel free to invent an elusive and fascinating pseudonym, if you like Grin

I will only share your details with one other person on the list and will never post any of them on here, or anywhere else for that matter. Guide's honour [salutes].

People who came too late - we are probably full now but keep an eye on the thread just in case some people don't come back...you never know.

RatOnnaStick · 29/04/2016 16:59

Oh gosh now I'm torn between giving my usual name or a fascinating and elusive pseudonym now...

aristocat · 29/04/2016 17:20

You have mail arti Grin

BertrandRussell · 29/04/2016 17:34

Oh, God- I've just remembered the book choosing angst. What will she think of me? Too fluffy? Too high brow? Will she judge me and never take anything I post seriously again?...................do I go for something I really like or something that makes me look the way I wish I was?........

RufusTheReindeer · 29/04/2016 17:36

Hopefully you've got mail from me

I never trust it Hmm

Not sure about book or chocolate at the moment, so all being well we always send to the same person so eventually we will learn their favourite chocolates...is that right?

I feel a trip to my favourite chocolate shop coming on...one for you, and one for me

Feeling the pressure of the book though, do i go for a loved one or one that i really enjoyed and feel should be spread? I write down the books i read so i will have a look

What if everyone thinks its shit do i get kicked out...OMG i'm overthinking it!!!!!

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 29/04/2016 17:41

I went for one which I really loved and want to talk to people about. Actually had another in mind straight away but when I went to my bookshelf to get it I saw another and remembered just how much I wanted to discuss it with other people when I finished it so now you lot can suffer me and my book discussions as it goes around Grin

Loving the one for you, one for me approach to chocolate Rufus

Cunties · 29/04/2016 17:50

Wooooo!!!! Thank you Flowers

RufusTheReindeer · 29/04/2016 17:53

caffinated

There is one book directly in my line of sight that i really enjoyed and so did our whole book club.

Oh man just seen another one...dammit

Some serious thinking to do Grin

ghostoftheMNchicken · 29/04/2016 17:57

I think I know what I want to send, but have to read the bugger myself first. Confused

TheImprobableGirl · 29/04/2016 19:34

If they don't play I would LOVE to join in- avid reader, good post office queues, regular mner (guides honour)

Love to try new books and particularly love discussing them. Have dp who works late so can't get to book clubs any more I could always join in if someone drops out if you are sorted already?

Cunties · 29/04/2016 19:38

Err. No Grin

Cunties · 29/04/2016 19:43

Hang on I pm'd you? God I'm failing already
